Primo Pan Foglie di Mais

a bag of gingerbread cookies with a red bow on a white background .

While we love every product we bring in sometimes our customers overlook or forget about a love that's been in the store for years. These are just that, here's your reminder and a deal!

Primo Pan Foglie di Mais are the traditional crumbly cornmeal cookies that have been enjoyed by the people of the Piedmont region in northwest Italy for centuries. This much beloved treat is still made with the same few simple farm fresh ingredients – wheat flour, fresh eggs, honey, cane sugar, stone-ground corn meal, and butter – in the small rural village of Battifollo near the Ligurian Alps.

Enjoy the toothsome paste di meliga alone or dunk one, two, or more of the delightful, leaf-shaped treat in coffee or espresso, tea, or – as the Italians do – in a sweet Italian dessert wine or a fruit forward Dolcetto or Barbara wine. Be truly decadent and serve with lemon curd sandwiched between. Having these in your pantry is always a good idea.

Come to bayleaf for a package or two and be sure to check out our selection of fine Italian wines for drinking or dunking. Mention “Primo Pan” and save 20% off your crumbly cornmeal cookie purchase!
