This much beloved treat is still made with the same few simple farm fresh ingredients – wheat flour, fresh eggs, honey, cane sugar, stone-ground corn meal, and butter – in the small rural village of Battifollo near the Ligurian Alps.

Enjoy the toothsome paste di meliga alone or dunk one, two, or more of the delightful, leaf-shaped treat in coffee or espresso, tea, or – as the Italians do – in a sweet Italian dessert wine or a fruit forward Dolcetto or Barbara wine.
