Championing Grower-Produced Fine Iberian Wines
Wine Tasting - 19 May Saturday 4pm - $30/$20 wine club member discount
When I first tasted these wines in the shop I didn't need much convincing to host an event. We hope you'll join us as we welcome this exciting portfolio to bayleaf...Below is an excerpt from the website. We'll pour 6 wines and a bite to pair. Discounts will be offered during the event to entice you to take home bottles for your cellar - the wines are fantastic!
We believe the most alive and vibrant wines are made in the vineyard. Since the founding of JPS, we have searched both established and up-and-coming regions
throughout
the Iberian Peninsula and its surrounding islands to find growers who respect their land by using the most natural means possible, often practicing organic and/or biodynamic farming. For many of our growers, this is how their ancestors made wine long before it became popular. Our winegrowers emphasize Iberia's indigenous grape varieties and, above all else, work with their land to handcraft honest wines with a sense of place. To this
end
, they harvest by hand, use only indigenous yeast during fermentation, and
sulfur
additions and filtering are kept to a minimum or none. These are the guiding principles we use to seek out new growers, and as Iberia's diverse terruño continues to be uncovered, we look forward to discovering and bringing our customers many more new, fascinating and unknown wines.
For more than a decade, the José Pastor Selections back label has been synonymous with authentic, fine Iberian wines. Our longevity has always been based on taking risks (the good kind). We entered the scene at a moment in wine history when regional and traditionally made Iberian wines were disappearing and being replaced by an international style stripped of terroir. It was a time when chemicals in the vineyard and manipulation in the winery were the most celebrated and profitable. Long before it was fashionable, we championed the work of traditionally minded growers who believed in a minimalist approach in the vines and in the cellar.
From old-school Rioja – a near extinct expression of Spanish winemaking – to the historic wines of Colares and noble reds of Galicia, we've introduced wine lovers to little-known grapes such as Caiño and Mencía from the ancient, underappreciated terraces of Ribeira Sacra. We've helped Americans rediscover the rare and ungrafted vineyards of the Canary Islands. Seeking out these almost forgotten regional and delicious wines and bringing them to our customers, while helping the small growers thrive, is what continues to drive us.

Join us for a special seated tasting on Thursday, May 15 from 5–7 PM with Clarke Boehling of Rosenthal Wine Merchant While visiting trade accounts in the area, Clarke has carved out time to lead this intimate tasting—and we’re thrilled to host him.
